This book pertains to the solution of ordinary differential equations as applied to the solution of one-dimensional open channel flow problems. It is lacks a thorough treatment of the theoretical basis of the equations and therefore the reader should refer to the excellent texts by Chow and Henderson. Relatively few diagrams are used to help understand the physical concepts where again the other more fundamental texts are better. It is a very large book - 1,227 pages in all, and it addresses details and complexities of problems such as divided flows and multiple canal gates in series that most other books do not. The author has compiled a very long list of errata, mostly typographical, that should come with the book from the publisher. My copy did not contain such a list. There are many example problems that are solved, some by the use of more than one differential equation solver tool. For a student specializing in this aspect of Civil Engineering, or for the professional who needs the tools to solve some complex open channel problems this is a useful book.
